Over the holidays my 18 year old was traveling, her (beater) car broke down 80 miles from home.
I traveled and picked her up.
The car was parked in a Walmart lot for a day, until we figured out what to do.
I wanted to just scrap it, she bent a front tie rod hoping a curb in a round about, snow storm with stick.
I contacted a relative in the trucking business, who said give me a few days, and I will pick it up and drop it off at her home 80 miles away.
In the mean time, Daughter calls Aunt and fills her in on the situation.
Aunt says ‘oh no you cant do that, Walmart will tow it away"
She calls a tow company and arranges to pick it and deliver it to her home 80 miles away, tells my Daughter just pay me back. 0 tow bill.
I argue with Aunt and explain car is not worth the tow and repairs etc..she insists and asks me about my insurance. Explain company will only pay 15 mile tow or nearest service station.
Not going to help in this situation, and besides a friend offered to fix car for cheap.
Aunt tows anyhow.
Week later, Daughter does use our insurance to have car towed 10 miles to friends home to fix.
Tow company backs into car and crumples hood up.
Tow company when confronted about damage at delivery, shrugs shoulders and just walks off on Daughter.
I contact insurance company and make claim for hood damage.
Two weeks later, Aunt calls my insurance company and files a claim to be reimbursed for her 400 dollar tow, without saying anything to me.
My insurance company, assigned a claim number then froze my account and now is opening a investigation for a fraud claim?
They think that the two incidents were the same.
I am so angry, why would a insurance company allow someone to file a claim on my own insurance on my behalf?
My Sister in Law just put me in a situation to look like a criminal?
I feel like the insurance company should have never sat and even talked to her.
Do they have the right to do that?
When I spoke to them, they said they need copies of the tow receipts to see that there was two tows.
Its just the point, that they even considered someone calling up making a claim on my own policy, for me.
Will my rates go up now?
Are they going to cover the damage that their tow company did do?
